Virus Scare at TBMS

Last week, a student at TBMS jokingly set the below image as the background on one of the computers in the computer lab. His teacher thought it was a real virus and completely shut down the entire computer lab for several days and alerted the principle, Stacey Brown. Brown’s course of action was to find the student who changed the background and suspend him for three days.

What do you think? Were the principle’s actions justified?

Trying to Salvage the Economy

Barack Obama has started off his first week focused on the rapidly deflating economy. His first motion was to freeze the salaries of his high paid aides. A fine first gesture for the publics’ sake but it may have caused some friction in the White House. “Families are tightening their belts, and so should Washington,” said the new president.

From Euphoria to Disillusionment

After receiving several complaints, the Placer Grand Jury investigated the expansion plans that the district had laid out and concurring financial woes. The Grand Jury criticized the district and community for “setting unrealistic goals and using risky, uncertain funding to get there”. January 26th is Chinese New Year! It is the end of the year of the Rat and welcome in the year of the Ox. Traditionally, the new year is celebrated with red packets filled with money, parades and colorful, exotic foods. Here are some common greetings:

  • Xin Nian Kuai Le! [Sheen Nyan Kwai Luh] – Happy New Year!
  • Gong Xi Fa Cai [Gong She Fah Chai] – Congratulations and be Prosperous!
  • Hong Bao Na Lai [Hong Bow Nah Lie] – Give me my red packet!

Soccer is kicking up

The new soccer season is starting girls. Conditioning has begun out on the field this week and next week. On our home turf at 3:30 Tuesday, Wed, and Thursday, Asst Coach Bill Frasier will be whipping you into shape for a killer season this year. Also there is a meeting in Rm. 24, Mr Maul’s room after school on Friday. Be there!

Our new president was sworn in

Yesterday, Barack Obama was sworn in as our 44th President of the United States. Our very own Alex Joe (teacher) and Regina Belle (JV girls asst) attended the event. There will be a front page story covering their experiences in our next issue.
